National Tainan Girls’ Senior High School|Light & Shadow Play Box
The renovation targeted a classroom at Tainan Girls’ Senior High School used for Mandarin speech training and board-game club activities. Originally a dance studio, the space lacked adequate storage planning; aside from the full-height mirrors and wooden flooring, it contained only two heavy metal cabinets and newly purchased tables and chairs that did not meet users’ needs—the table edges were uneven, and the chairs were heavy and prone to pinching fingers.
The design team replaced them with modular tables and benches that can be freely stored and combined, and added perforated-panel storage units along the walls to greatly enhance the classroom’s storage and display capacity. In addition, the aged wooden flooring was removed to reveal the terrazzo flooring underneath. The overall space adopts a lively lemon yellow, applying continuous bright lines across the ceiling, floor, and walls to evoke imagery of light and shadow, refreshing the atmosphere and infusing the room with energy—celebrating the joy of both board-game activities and Mandarin speech training.
