Miaoli County Lantian Elementary School Studio In2

Miaoli County Lantian Elementary Schoo|The Handbook

Miaoli County | Reading space

Lantian Elementary School’s original library was located on the second floor, far from teachers’ offices and classrooms. This distance not only made management difficult but also limited students’ access to books, as the short break time was often insufficient for children to visit the library and find something they wished to read.

To address this, the design team chose to combine two vacant first-floor classrooms into a new library, anchored by a semi-circular bookshelf wall that extends across the entire space. The bookshelves are built with environmentally friendly, renewable birch plywood and paired with fiber-cement wall panels to enhance insulation, dehumidification, and acoustic quality. Existing school chairs were refurbished into new seating, while the bookshelves were custom-designed to suit students’ height for easy access. A clear and visually pleasing classification system further ensures that the new library truly supports students’ reading needs, transforming the space into a refined, student-centered reading environment.
