A New Wayfinding System That Unifies Two Campuses at Guting Junior High School

Guting Junior High School is composed of two campuses connected by a pedestrian bridge, making its spatial configuration more complex than that of typical schools. The previous wayfinding system, lacking integration, professional design, and strategic placement, made it difficult for parents, visitors, and administrative guests to identify their destinations quickly and navigate the campus with confidence.

This renovation introduces a design-thinking approach supported by user interviews, pain-point analysis, universal design strategies, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The new wayfinding system balances aesthetics and functionality, ensuring that everyone—from teachers and students to parents, community members, and external venue users—can move through the campus with clarity and ease. By establishing a coherent visual language and clear directional cues, the two campuses are finally experienced as one unified whole, eliminating confusion and helping all users reach their destinations without losing their way.

Design analysis

  1. Install a complete campus map with two campuses distinguished by color.

  2. Apply the representative colors of the two campuses to zoning signage and circulation guides.

  3. Add interpretive signs for campus pavilions and special facilities.

  4. Use universal design principles and location-appropriate markers to help all users orient quickly.
