“ The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things.”

Subtraction and Modularity: Creating the First Off-Island Aesthetic Learning Base
With the concept of an art gallery as the spatial foundation, the project brings aesthetic sensibility into the school while endowing the space with multifunctional potential. It is designed not only for static exhibitions but also to support dynamic performances that can fully unfold within the environment. The design team adopted a subtractive approach, stripping away visual clutter from the existing architecture and reorganizing the space with a light-toned palette. Windows were replaced with transparent glass to introduce abundant natural light, imparting a sense of purity and openness to the environment. To ensure future flexibility in spatial configuration, a series of custom-designed modular display cabinets was created, establishing a clean and adaptable character. This new aesthetic foundation provides students in Kinmen with an inspiring place to experience and develop visual literacy.
