National Chutung Senior High School
Located on the slopes of Fengyang Mountain, the school campus spans multiple elevations, with buildings scattered across different levels. Over many years of construction changes and renovations, the original wayfinding system lost its guiding function and became difficult to recognize. The considerable distances between buildings frequently caused visitors to lose their way.
Design analysis
A series of plein-air works created by the late Taiwanese painter Hsiao Ju-Song—painted onsite at Chutung Senior High School—served as the conceptual foundation. His clear, serene palette, expressive lines, vertically accentuated forms, and near-abstract geometric compositions were transformed through design thinking into a poetic dialogue with the school community. This approach resulted in a distinctive, elevated signage system that embodies the school’s spirit and identity.
