New Taipei Municipal Bei Gang Elementary School
Each classroom contains a rear “preparation room,” originally intended for storing teaching materials. However, in the era of digital learning, such storage needs are no longer relevant. These rooms have since become cluttered storage areas, resulting in wasted space and making classroom environments appear disorganized. In addition, the outdated built-in cabinets below the preparation rooms were designed with improper depth, failing to meet ergonomic and functional requirements.
Design analysis
Interior windows were added to spatial partitions to maintain a sense of openness, enabling the classroom to support a wide spectrum of activities and learning scenarios. The design team proposed that classrooms should allow children to experience boundless knowledge within a limited footprint. Therefore, a non-traditional classroom layout was introduced, transforming the previously rigid spatial configuration into a more flexible and creative learning environment.
