Chiayi City Chiapei Elementary School｜Chiapei Arc Concert Hall

The wind band is a prided feature of Chiapei Elementary School. However, the students did not have a professional space for practice and performance. The existing classroom was crowded and students had to move around or weave through instruments. The classroom also lacked a professional storage space and aesthetics echoing the music. 

To create a space that can simultaneously satisfy all these needs, the design team proposed a spatial configuration with high variability and extensibility: a stage with wheels that can be moved around and quickly assembled, as well as large curtains in two colors, giving the space four different kinds of horizontal/vertical configurations for different purposes: performance, rehearsal, and class. The multifunctional table can be used for teaching, and as reception desk during performances. The newly added backstage is an important space for students to get prepared and store musical instruments according to their types. The transformer-like new classroom will be an important stage for these future musicians to practice and make their debuts.
