Taichung Feng Tong Junior High School|FengDong Assembly Hall
Feng Tong Junior High School’s wrestling hall had become an idle space after the discontinuation of its athletic program. Nearby, another building featured a semi-outdoor circular stage, and the school long envisioned linking these two endpoints to create a unified activity zone that could accommodate both dynamic and static events. After extensive consideration, the design team decided to open the hall’s façade facing the circular stage, extending a platform outward to connect the interior with the outdoors. This intervention forms an activity corridor that ties together the stage and the hall, establishing a new performance spine within the campus. In addition, the removal of the suspended ceiling reveals the original folded-plate roof structure, whose distinct architectural beauty is heightened through thoughtful lighting design, transforming the formerly outdated hall into a key venue for school events.
Maple and Vitex trees grow around the former wrestling hall, inspiring the new name “FengDong Assembly Hall” With this transformation, the space has evolved into a beloved after-school meeting place where Feng Tong students gather, socialize, and create shared memories.
