Taichung Tong-Lin Elementary School|Tong Learning Hub
“ Bilingual classrooms provide children with immersive English learning experiences, allowing them to explore in a diverse range of languages.”
Integrating Storage and Display — Redefining Spatial Boundaries with a Wall-less Wall
The renovated classroom is larger and taller than a standard room, yet outdated storage systems had caused clutter and inefficiency. The design team redefined wall surfaces as storage and display interfaces while incorporating design strategies that resolve the school’s practical storage needs. By rotating the ceiling grid and introducing ceiling systems of varying heights to integrate suspended light fixtures, the entire space gains new boundaries that naturally distinguish teaching zones from learning zones.
Creating Embodied Memories of Tonglin through Color and Materiality
Situated in the mountains, Tonglin Elementary School carries a distinct woodland character. The design team adopted a signature green as the primary color and used it to articulate different areas based on their specific functions. Wood finishes extend from the flooring up into perforated wood panels along the walls, forming a cohesive material language. Through this interplay of color and texture, students develop visual and bodily memories within the space, fostering deeper recognition and emotional connection to their learning environment.
