Yunlin County Siluo Junior High School|BAKE - N - BEST
“ Starting from contextual experience, make the classroom not just a classroom, but also a place for hands-on experience and enjoying delicious meals.”
Integrated Experiential Teaching Modes and an Open-Concept Spatial Design
Xiluo Junior High School is the only school in Yunlin County equipped with a culinary service classroom, with an annual usage exceeding 1,000 student visits. Although the school attempted to express teaching concepts through text printed on the classroom curtains, the space lacked the true atmosphere required for culinary education. Issues such as the absence of a proper demonstration area, the mixing of practice and tasting zones, and insufficient professional storage hindered the overall teaching experience.
To address these challenges, the design team replaced the corridor-facing wall with a full-height glass façade, introducing natural light and enhancing visual transparency. An open-concept teaching kitchen and an experiential dining zone were planned according to pedagogical needs. To ensure every student can clearly observe the teacher’s demonstrations, an overhead teaching mirror was installed above the demonstration counter, allowing multiple viewing angles. The experiential dining area was created as a warm and relaxed environment where students can enjoy the dishes they prepare, fostering a sense of accomplishment while encouraging conversation, collaboration, and deeper peer connection.
