Taitung County Chih Shang Junior High School|Music in Motion
“ With a good learning environment, children's interest in music can be enhanced, opportunities for performance and communication can be increased, and their skills in music learning can be cultivated.”
Activating Spatial Orientation and Integrating Equipment to Support Flexible Dual-Curriculum Use
By removing the stepped seating and the storage room, the design releases valuable floor area while redefining the classroom through a strategic reorientation of its spatial axis. The short axis is reimagined as the instructional zone required for music classes, whereas the long axis provides an open, unobstructed area for performing arts activities that involve greater physical movement. An L-shaped instructional storage system further consolidates storage, teaching display surfaces, and integrated audience seating, creating a cohesive support zone that enhances functionality for both curricula.
Rhythm within Randomness: Using Materials and Accented Colors to Highlight the Space
John CaThe overall color palette is intentionally simplified, employing low-saturation greens and yellows as accent hues to introduce a lively atmosphere while echoing the characteristic colors of Chishang. These elements define visual focal points and spatial highlights. The performance stage is articulated through circular color blocks that extend across both wall and floor surfaces, complemented by a metal ring embedded with LED lighting and paired spotlights to reinforce the theatrical ambiance. Inspired by the unconventional notation of contemporary composer John Cage, the design team developed a bulletin board composed of metal panels whose arrangement balances order with spontaneity, creating a feature that is both expressive and structurally coherent.
